Jets Fans Mixed On Season As Home Opener Gets Under Way

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Jets fans were out in force early Sunday, tailgating before the home opener at MetLife Stadium.

"We got some burgers going today, some chicken wings, got some Italian sausages. Maybe a little later, some sandwiches. A little of everything," one tailgater told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.

Rookie quarterback Geno Smith was making his first career start Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to a report, quarterback Mark Sanchez underwent an MRI that showed a partially torn labrum.

Some fans were optimistic ahead of the season starter.

"The Jets are gonna have an incredible season," fan Gary Michaels said. "You could say right now Gary Michaels told you first, the Jets will be in first place come Christmas."

But others said on paper, the team appears to be a mess.

"I'd rather have my wife playing quarterback than the guys we have, so we'll see what happens," one fan said.

"I'm hoping for at least a 5, 6 win season and we'll go from there," another Jet fan told Schuck.
