ASPCA Holds Third Annual 'Cat Friday' Adoption Event

NEW YORK (AP) -- Retailers aren't the only ones offering steep discounts this Black Friday.

The ASPCA is offering deep discounts on fees for qualified adopters for its third annual "Cat Friday" event.

About 75 cats are looking for new homes this holiday season, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.

Cats over a year old will have their adoption fees waived, while kittens — ages four months to one year — will have an adoption fee of only $50. Normally, the adoption fee for kittens is $125.

"All of our animals are always spade and neutered and microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations," the ASPCA's Mallory Kerley said.

New owners will also get free cat scratchers and foldable travel bowls, Miller reported.

Like the stores, the ASPCA's adoption center on the Upper East Side has extended its hours for the big day and will be open until 9 p.m.
