Esiason Blasts 'Baby' Manziel: Browns Rookie Fixing To Get His 'A-- Kicked'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Johnny Manziel better watch himself if he's named the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback.

Especially after his latest antics.

Manziel didn't do much to help his cause Monday night against the Redskins, struggling on the field and fueling his detractors by flipping the middle finger at Washington's sideline.

"I'm telling you right now, he is not even remotely close to being ready," WFAN co-host Boomer Esiason said at the top of Tuesday's show. "If he opened as the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh in Week 1, he would get his a-- kicked. And his a-- would be driven into the ground. Because I'm telling you, other teams hate this guy. Hate him."

The 21-year-old Manziel will be holding a clipboard if the Browns -- who can't be happy with the rookie's shenanigans -- decide Brian Hoyer is the safer option. On the flip side, if Manziel wins the competition, he could find himself on the ground, eating turf. Often.

Take it from Esiason, who knows a little something about playing quarterback in the NFL.

"I saw it from the Detroit Lions. I saw it last night from the Washington Redskins," he said. "And I'm telling you, those linebackers for the Pittsburgh Steelers are just praying to God that (Manziel) plays in Week 1. And if I were (Cleveland head coach) Mike Pettine, I would have to have my head examined to put that kid on the field. He is not even close to being ready."

Missteps. Boozy party pics. It's been nothing but headlines and headaches -- and to be fair, jersey sales -- since Manziel's famous draft-night text to the Browns: "I want to wreck this league together."

"Yeah, OK. You're gonna get wrecked, son," Esiason said. "You know, the NFL is about as unforgiving a place as there is on God's green earth. It is a men's place. It is for people that have a very, very strong constitution.

"Whether or not you can handle it is going to be determined by your maturity level. And right now, this kid is a baby."
