Report: Mets' Travis D'Arnaud Could Return This Weekend

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud has been sidelined since April 19, when he suffered a fractured hand after getting hit by a pitch.

He was cleared to swing a bat on Monday after X-rays showed that the broken bone in his hand was healed.

"Tomorrow, he'll probably do some more dry work," manager Terry Collins told reporters. "Then some tee work. If everything is OK there, he'll do some soft tosses so he can get used to the shock of the ball."

Neither Collins nor general manager Sandy Alderson have offered a timetable for the starting backstop's return.

However, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports that the 26-year-old could be activated from the disabled list this weekend when the Mets take on the Pirates at PNC Park.

Prior to getting injured, d'Arnaud was off to a red-hot start. In 11 games he hit .317 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. His return should greatly help a lineup that has struggled of late to score runs.

Rookie Kevin Plawecki has been starting in d'Arnaud's place. The 24-year-old has shown promise, but has looked a bit overmatched at the plate. In 19 games he's batting .224 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. His on-base percentage is an ugly .264.
