Police: Six Teens Try To Rob 77-Year-Old Man In Central Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Six teenage boys tried to rob a man along the same path in Central Park where a woman was mugged last week, police said.

The 77-year-old victim said he was near West 102nd Street and West Drive at about 9 p.m. Saturday night when the group of teens told him to empty his pockets, CBS2 reported.

The victim didn't have any money so the teens walked away empty handed, police said.

The man was not hurt.

No arrests have been made.

Last Wednesday, a 26-year-old woman said she was walking along the same secluded path when a man jumped in front of her and demanded she hand over her purse. When she refused, the suspect punched her in the face repeatedly, causing her to fall to the ground.

The suspect took off with her belongings. The victim said he only got away with $1.70.

There have been several crimes in and around Central Park in recent months, including several muggings and an attempted kidnapping. Statistics from the NYPD show there's been 16 robberies since the beginning of 2015. That's double the number from same time last year.
