2 Charged In Boiling Water Attack On Man In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two teenage suspects were charged Thursday with beating and boiling pouring water on a man in the Bronx.

Rosario Franklyn, 19, and Damien Arias, 18, both of the Bronx, were each charged with assault, police said. A third suspect was also involved in the attack, police said.

Authorities said the 50-year-old man was attacked by the three suspects at West Kingsbridge Road and Grand Avenue just before 9 p.m. Sunday, 1010 WINS reported.

Two suspects began to talk with the man, and when they approached the corner of Kingsbridge Road and Davidson Avenue, the third joined them and they began punching and kicking him, police said. They then threw what appeared to be hot water on his face, police said.

The assault had been under investigation as a hate crime, according to the New York Daily News, which reported that the assailants hurled a racial slur at the victim before pouring the hot water on his face. There was no mention of a hate crime in the charges.

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment.
