Giants Add LB Sheppard, RB Rainey, OT Stingily

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The Giants announced the signings of three new players Monday.

Big Blue inked journeyman middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, ex-Buccaneers running back Bobby Rainey and former Titans offensive tackle Byron Stingily.

Sheppard, 28, was a third-round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2011. He spent two seasons in Buffalo, one in Indianapolis and the last two with the Miami Dolphins. In 2015, he played in 16 games, starting 13, and recorded 105 tackles.

The Giants are looking for a new starting linebacker after Jon Beason retired in February. Sheppard will compete in training camp against Keenan Robinson, the former Redskin signed in free agency last month, and Jasper Brinkely, who was re-signed after starting nine games last season.

Rainey, 28, entered the league in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky. After stops in Baltimore and Cleveland, he spent 2 1/2 seasons with Tampa Bay.

In 2013, he had 532 yards rushing and five touchdowns. In 2014, he rushed for 406 yards and caught 33 passes for 315 yards. The 5-foot-8-inch, 212-pound running back, however, was relegated to mostly kick and punt return duties in 2015.

In New York, Rainey will be reunited with offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan, who was the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator in 2013.

Stingily, 27, was a sixth-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2011. In four seasons with Tennessee, he played in 20 games, starting nine.

Last season, the 6-5, 318-pound lineman was waived by the Titans at the end of training camp and signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in October.
