Hackensack Man Charged In 'Countdown Bandit' Bank Robberies

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man believed to be the bank robber known as the "Countdown Bandit'' has been arrested, prosecutors said.

Marcelino Garcia, 23, of Hackensack is charged in connection with 10 bank robberies dating back to February 2015, authorities said.

Investigators linked Garcia to a vehicle spotted at the robberies during an investigation involving local and federal authorities, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

He was arrested Thursday, hours after authorities said he robbed a bank in Wallington.

Garcia robbed the banks in Bergen and Passaic counties using the same method of counting down until tellers gave him money, authorities said.

He pleaded not guilty Friday to 10 counts of second-degree robbery.

Garcia is being held on $750,000 bail and is due back in court on July 6.
