WCBS 880′s Jim Taylor shares his thoughts on Broadway and the 2011 Tony Awards. He will be blogging about his picks and predictions on the nominees up until the awards on June 12.
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark returns from the dark. Previews open tonight, and a whole of folks can’t wait to spend too much to see it. Again.
The producers promise a re-energized, re-invigorated, re-written show.
How about one that makes sense?
I thought I’d share some Vox Pop quotes from people who saw the Julie Taymor production that nearly claimed the lives of some actors — and did cost Ms. Taymor her job.
“$65 million dollars?”
“This thing ain’t winnin’ any Tonys, dude.”
“It could use some better plot development.”
“Plot? What plot?”
“It was so uninteresting, I literally laid my head on my boyfriend’s shoulder, closed my eyes and waited for it to be over.”
“I was hoping something would go wrong, so there’d be some reason to keep watching.”
“Not a single good song, right?”
“And i mean it’s like Bono and the Edge, right?”
Cool new tunes are also promised from Bono and The Edge. And a guy from Marvel Comics was brought in, so there’s hope the plot-lines may better evoke the mindset of the comic book hero.
The producers also promise the show will open on June 14th. Really.
Since it was dark for the last three weeks the show is ineligible for a Tony — which is probably just as well. Maybe this version is Marvel-perfect.
