Glitz and Glam
Sequins are back in a big way this season. From dresses dripping with embellishments to gowns accented with diagonal sequin patterns, designer Kati Stern's collection literally lit up the runway. Glitz is always a fun trend to wear, but one can run the risk of looking overdone or like a disco ball. Not here—this collection definitely shimmered, but in an elegant way. The designer used beaded straps to keep the look dainty, or high collars to add that touch of sophistication.
Two stunning silk wedding gowns closed the show. They both glistened with Swarovski crystals, or 'sparkles for the rich and the famous.' Watching these pieces glide down the runway was like peaking into a forbidden vault at Kleinfeld's.
Asymmetry
The one-shoulder look is playful but still sophisticated—it can work for any occasion. The gold one-shoulder cocktail dress would be drop-dead sexy for a night out on the Lower West Side. For anyone high-profile enough to walk the red carpet, the slate one-shoulder would certainly turn heads with its elegance. The Venexiana signature look was to offset many of her asymmetrical pieces with large textured flowers.
Metallics
Gold, silver and bronze popped up in every material and texture. One especially unique cocktail dress was made completely of gold nail heads. Metallic silver tights added a touch of 'oomph' to the more understated looks, like the grey wool dress and houndstooth coat. The designer also mixed her metallics with girlish ruffles or fox fur muffs. The crazy union of materials worked, and is what made the collection so eclectic and interesting.
