Best Mardi Gras 2015 Celebrations In New York City

For one day in February New York City turns into New Orleans in celebration of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is officially celebrated on February 17, 2015, but parties continue all season long. So grab your beads and head to some great venues, and celebrate some great causes in the process.

Food Karma Projects and Cook Out NYC host an old-fashioned Louisiana Mardi Gras in Brooklyn this year. Expect to be eating like a southerner with gumbo, jambalaya and other New Orleans-style treats. And expect to be drinking like a southerner, with craft beers and artisanal spirits flowing all night long. Mona's Hot Four Ragtime Band will keep you entertained while the Astoria Tap Crew will encourage you to get up and dance right along with their burlesque and tap dances. Tickets are $45 for general admission or $100 for VIP all-access passes.

The Greater New York Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association will host its very own Mardi Gras celebration at Slate in the Flatiron District. Tickets cost $30 in advance or $40 at the door. Come out for an evening of fun "to celebrate everything that is possible after spinal cord injury with family, friends and a wide network of supporters."

The Salon is organizing a grand party New Orleans-style, taking place at the downtown bar The DL. Three different floors will feature four bands and 35 different performers throughout the night. If you're looking for a way to spend a classy night, put on your best dress, grab some beads at the door and dance the night away with The Salon. Burlesque, specialty cocktails and even some swing dance lessons are all available; general admission is $35 at the door.

Fat Friday is an annual event that celebrates New Orleans traditions and culture right here in New York City. Created in response to Hurricane Katrina, the Mardi Gras event now benefits charitable organizations in Louisiana and New York, including New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, The Roots of Music and FIGMENT. Brother Joscephus and the Love Revolution will lead the music for the night as area restaurants contribute their best Southern-style dishes. Expect great food, costumes, parades, beads and an all-around great time. Pre-sale tickets are $15, or $65 for VIP seats.
