Best Ways To Celebrate Earth Day In New York City

Earth Day was created for the nation to get together in support of the environmental movement. It started in the United States in 1970, but now through the help of the Earth Day Network, it has spread to nearly 200 other countries. In New York, Earth Day began with a group of students at Columbia University. Fifth Avenue and Central Park were all made available for the first Earth Day celebration. The Earth Day Craft & Mini Garden Tour is a wonderful activity for kids this Earth Day. Entrance into this event is free with garden admission but note that it is limited to the first 30 children. Earth Day Rockaway allows visitors to celebrate Earth Day on the beautiful Rockaway waterfront. This event is in its ninth year and includes free environmental activities. This year, among other offerings, you can learn how to better utilize the earth's resources while your kids get their faces painted. Earth Day Rockaway is an event for all ages. It is organized by the Rockway Waterfront Alliance.

It's back to the Queens Botanical Garden for this must see event. The Arbor Festival is a lovely opportunity for people of all ages to celebrate Earth and Arbor Day. The event has tons of food, crafts, beer tent and even a petting zoo. It's free with garden admission. Prices vary if you choose not to purchase a garden admission ticket.

Earth Day 5K Walk & Green Tour

Earth Day New York is hosting its first ever 5K Walk & Green Tour. The tour will focus on a scavenger hunt-style walk that will allow volunteers to learn more about green places in New York City. Earth Day has come a long way since the first official Earth Day was held back in 1970. The Green Festival Expo will be held throughout the day with various activities. Some events to look forward to are exhibits on green products and services. There will also be opportunities for shopping and talks from inspirational speakers.
