Long Islanders Oppose New Cell Towers
WANTAGH, NY (WCBS 880) -- An increase in the demand for new technology has suburbia and industry fighting each other on Long Island.
A growing number of Long Islanders are protesting the proliferation of cell phone towers in their communities.
Many lawns on Woodbine Avenue in Wantagh are decked out with "Don't Cell Out" signs in protest of cell towers which will be installed at a local synagogue.
Health is one of the main concerns that residents have. One woman said she is worried about "cancer and different environmental concerns."
Local lawmakers, meantime, are considering legislation that would limit or ban new tower applications.
