BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CBS 2/1010 WINS) — Police are continuing to hunt for a rapist in Brooklyn after an attack on a Parks Department employee near a park playground Thursday morning.
Shortly after 9 a.m., police say a 20-year-old female park worker was raped in the utility room, near the bathrooms, by a man with a box cutter.
“Now I don’t want to come here anymore,” Bed-Stuy resident Abdur Rahim said. “It’s dangerous.”
Police say a co-worker of the victim walked in on the attack, and the suspect fled the scene on a bicycle.
Police say they are now searching for a black male, 22 to 25 years old, and approximately 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds. The suspect was wearing a red shirt with a white logo, red and white Nike sneakers, and riding a small red bicycle. Authorities also released a sketch of the suspect Friday afternoon.
“To hear that it happened in the morning, in broad daylight, it’s kind of scary,” Bed-Stuy resident Stephanie O’Connor said. “This is a children’s park.”
That the attack happened in a park frequented by children and families, residents say, makes it even worse.
“It’s a scary situation,” resident Ticha Floyd said. “That’s why I don’t be out half the time, I don’t even come outside.”
The victim was hospitalized at Kings County hospital. The suspect is still on the loose.
