NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – October 27 is T Day.

LISTEN: WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb reports

That’s the day the MTA will reveal its decision on how much to raise bridge and tunnel tolls.

Plan 1 is an across the board hike of 50 cents at major crossings, $1 at the Verrazano, and 25 cents at the smaller bridges.

MTA Chairman Jay Walder says plan 2 would spare E-ZPass users and discourage cash customers by proposing “to raise cash tolls by a dollar over and above the increase that had been proposed while holding down the E-ZPass proposal.”

Walder calls the second idea “interesting.”

Meanwhile, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reports riders on the New Haven Line will avoid the fare hikes, but will be subject to some changes.

Maybe we should all become MTA employees. They live the high-life. Free metrocards, full benefits, and the highest pay >$65,000 for most employees. Requirements?? High school diploma! It must be nice. This is why Government does not work! Take from the many to give to the few. Hardly any money collected from tolls actually goes back into the road. Most of it goes right into the pockets of emplyoees.

  2. Mike says:

Another fare and toll hike again! How do you expect people to pay for all these increase in toll and fare hike when they do not have any cost of living increase in 3 years???

  3. ed says:

nyc is just out of control with all these increases from all angles. I hate this dirty, stinking city.

  4. jtorres says:

It costs me the same to park in Brooklyn when I drive into work as it does to travel by public transportation: $11 When the fare increases go into effect it’ll be even cheaper to drive in. Being green is becoming less and less important. Living in a healthy planet while unable to enjoy life doesn’t seem all that attractive to me.
