Patricia Burkhart says the problem is that there is no safe place for pedestrians to walk.

“No sidewalks. No bike lanes. Nothing,” Burkhart told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.

Hall asked, “Do you feel like you’re taking your life in your own hands?”

Burkhart answered, “Very much so, and it’s terrifying.”

She has been fighting since 2005 for more sidewalks in her Long Island community, especially after she was hit by a car.
