WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs reports
The Edward W. Bower Elementary School is the smallest and oldest of seven elementary schools in the Suffolk County community of Lindenhurst. By a vote of seven to nothing, the Board made the decision Wednesday night to close it down for good and lease the property out.
About 300 people packed a forum on the potential closing back in October. The move was expected to save the district more than $1 million.
Students will be sent to two other elementary schools.
