1010 WINS' Stan Brooks reports

The annual report from the Straphangers Campaign says the bus recorded an average speed of 3.6 miles per hour. The nine other award-winning slow routes in Manhattan were all crosstown lines from 96th Street to 14th Street.

The slowest lines, in order of sluggishness are the M42, M14A, M66, M79, M23, M34, M14D, M50, M96, M86.

The slowest route in Brooklyn is the B 35 which runs between Sunset Park and Brownsville at 5.4 miles per hour and in the Bronx the BX 19 got the top honors at 5.1 miles per hour.

The "Shleppie Award" for the least reliable bus line went to the BX 41 in the Bronx.

"Our sense is that absolutely nothing has changed with the majority of bus routes," Gene Russianoff of the Straphangers Campaign said. "They were slow in 2002 when we started doing this and they're slow in 2010."

Volunteers with the Straphangers Campaign monitored 29 bus routes over the summer during weekday afternoons.
