Child Welfare Agency Gives Kids Brighter Holiday

NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- A child welfare agency is making the holidays brighter for a group of children with severe disabilities and chronic illnesses.

The New Alternatives for Children (NAC) held its 25th annual holiday party yesterday at Chelsea Piers.

About 1,000 children and their families came out to play games, have their faces painted, eat lunch and dance. Santa was also there to hand out presents to all the children.

"We're so thrilled to have this beautiful space for these children to have a good time. Most of our kids live below the poverty line and this is a special day for all of them and their families," NAC's Arlene Goldsmith said.

NAC is the city's only child welfare agency devoted exclusively to serving children with severe disabilities and chronic illnesses.
