Cops: LI Man Arrested After Returning To Accident Site

WOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) -- Police say a man who left the scene of a Long Island traffic accident where a woman was run over twice has been arrested after going back there.

Nassau County police say 21-year-old man Paul J. Reiners, of Syosset, was driving a 2002 Ford Mustang in Woodbury around 6 p.m. Wednesday when he struck the woman as she was crossing Jericho Turnpike. The woman then was run over by another vehicle.

Police say Reiners left the scene without identifying himself but returned in his car about 90 minutes later and was arrested. They haven't said why he returned or how he was identified.

Reiners is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury. He'll be arraigned Thursday in Hempstead.

The 24-year-old woman who was run over suffered serious head trauma and has been hospitalized.
