Camera Problems Cause Backlogs At NJ MVC Sites

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey residents trying to renew their driver's licenses or get their permits had to deal with an unexpected glitch on Friday.

Officials say a problem with the Motor Vehicle Commission cameras in Trenton caused a major backlog during the morning hours.

The cameras began functioning again shortly before 11:30 a.m., but many sites were still standing-room only as of early Friday afternoon.

Some people left after hearing about the problem and learning that the sites were closing early due to the holiday. But many others waited out the long delays because they feared driving with an expired license.

Specific details on what caused the camera problem were not disclosed.
