Clarkstown Wants Bigger Cut Of Sales Tax

CLARKSTOWN, NY (WCBS 880) - A Rockland County town wants its cut!

Podcast

WCBS 880's Catherine Cioffi reports

The Nanuet Mall, the Palisades Center mall, and tons of car dealerships are all in Clarkstown.

Because of all of the sales tax that's generated there, Clarkstown supervisor Alex Gromack is now calling on the county to give Clarkstown a greater share of the sales tax.

"We provide all the police protection for the businesses and the mall - fire and ambulance," Gromack told WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi.

Gromack says that, in a perfect world, Clarkstown would get 10 percent more than they presently get.

"We are the town that makes the major contribution of sales tax because of all the businesses that we've been able to nurture and stimulate," says Gromack.

Gromack says Clarkstown deserves it.
