ROSLYN, N.Y. (AP) — This time around, man was the best friend.

Emergency services personnel in Nassau County rescued a golden retriever that had fallen through the ice into the waters of Roslyn Park pond.

The dog went into through the ice around 5:15 p.m. Sunday. Authorities used an inflatable boat and donned cold-water immersion suits to get to the animal.

The retriever was taken for veterinary treatment and then returned to its owner.

It is nice to hear a story of a dog being saved after those awful cases of animal cruelty that have been popping up.

golden retrievers were bred for that kind of cold water. I can’t keep mine out of the water no matter what time of year it is. perhaps he could’ve drowned if he were trapped under the ice but i’m quite sure the water’s temperature was never a problem.

Dog went into through the ice? Where’s the editor for this kind of grammar!?

that’s what you get for minimum wage i guess

File photo of a Golden Retriever? Yeah that really brings a lot to the story. Didn’t you have a file photo of ice you could have used instead?

I’ve said it before… irrelevant file photos don’t bring anything to the story so why insist on using them? Just in case it’s needed on the front page? How would a file photo (actually a rendering, even better) help in that instance either?

Bring back the old WINS site which was actually run by people interested in reporting the news… not in corporate synergy/cost cutting.
