Brooklyn Couple Charged With Hoarding Cats
NEW YORK (AP) -- A grand jury has charged a Brooklyn couple with hoarding almost 100 neglected cats in a filthy, rotting loft.
Investigators say that when they found the animals, some were missing eyes and teeth. Others were dehydrated and infested with fleas.
The loft stank of decomposing cat corpses. A handyman who had been inside told the Daily News that the whole block "smelled like a litter box."
Michael and Hazel Fiore were charged Friday under a state animal hoarding law.
Michael Fiore also faces felony animal cruelty charges.
