NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Jailed ex-Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress “will be playing” in 2011, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. A return to the NFL may be possible. Whether he’ll reunite with New York is a different story.

“I am not a big advocate of making predictions on teams because so much can change, but I am not afraid to make the following prediction: Plaxico Burress will be playing in 2011. And he will play very well,” Rosenhaus said on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL,” to be aired Thursday night.

“It will be a very happy ending to a very tough, tough story for him,” he added.

Burress went to the Latin Quarter nightclub in Manhattan on Nov. 28, 2008, with an illegal .40-caliber handgun tucked into the waistband of his track pants.

The weapon slipped down Burress’ leg and fired, injuring his right thigh.

Burress accepted a plea deal, and on September 22, 2009, was sentenced to two years in prison. The Giants released Plaxico one month earlier.

Although Burress has been denied twice for work release by the New York Department of Correctional Services because of the nature of his crime, the embattled wide receiver is expected to be released after serving 20 months.

According to analyst Phil Simms, a New York-Plaxico reunion is unlikely.

“I don’t think he’ll come back to the Giants. One, they are loaded at the receiver position,” Simms said. “I think it might be best for him to move on and connect with the coach or the receiver coach that he can have a special relationship with and further his career along.”

o man… if Giants ever needed Plexico – it’s now. Giants are a completely different team with Plexico. He has paid his due this May (20 months). let’s redeem the man who has done his time. let’s allow him to pay again.

John Mara is a good man and a very decent man.Plax had multiple chances with the Giants.Let’s not forget about being a role model for the kids.He could wind up with Vick but I would love to see him back with the Giants.John would have to go deep inside himself to consider giving him another chance. It’s Johns call and I would respect his decision.I personally would give him another chance on a short leash and tons of community service with the kids against illegal guns . Plax would have to be willing to walk the walk with John out of the gate.

It is all about winning. If the Steelers can forgive Big Ben and the Eagles forgive Michael Vick, then why not do the same Giants? We just want to win Super Bowls and Plex gives us a shot. The man has paid for his crime, c’mon lets compete and win now.

  5. Ruben says:

Yes, emphaticaly so. Bring him back because he and Eli are a formidable combination. Between Plaxico and Hakeem, who will defenses double up on? It’s a no brainer. I say let him have a chance to earn a spot on the team………

  6. CA Palmer says:

I would love to see Plax back in a NY Giants uniform. We have a great receiving corp right now. Can you imagine him as a third option. Lining him up in our 3 or 4 WR sets. Nearly unstoppable. I hope the Giant forgive and pick him up.

  7. Mike Diaz says:
