1,900 Lose Power In NY After Driver Hits Pole

MOHAWK, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities in upstate New York say a drunken driver hit a utility pole and shut off power for 1,900 people.

The accident Saturday in Mohawk also halted train service and injured a passenger in the driver's pickup truck.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said 20-year-old Joshua Blakeslee was going west when his truck crossed to the east side of the road, struck a utility pole and went down an embankment.

Passenger Zachary Burnham was trapped under the truck. He is at the Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police said the accident left 1,900 residents without power for hours. Train service was also interrupted.

Blakeslee was arrested on charges including vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.

No information on a lawyer for was available.
