NJ High School Athlete Dies After Swim

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Counselors were on hand at a northern New Jersey high school because a student athlete died after competing in a swim meet.

B.J. Giannone had finished a 200-yard freestyle relay when the senior from Saint Peter's Prep High School collapsed Monday night.

Coach Ryan Heffernan told The Star-Ledger of Newark there was nothing out of the ordinary until the 18-year-old said he felt light-headed.

The cause of death is not known.

School president Robert Reiser says the student's death was a "heartbreaking" loss.
