NEW YORK (CBS 2) — A Fire Department electrician who filed a race discrimination complaint against the department in December said a noose was left inside his work locker.

Gregory Seabrook said he found the noose on Thursday at an FDNY facility in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Seabrook’s lawyer displayed the noose at a news conference.

“It’s a workable noose as one can see. So positioned in front of our client’s locker certainly suggests very strongly in no uncertain terms a direct threat,” said Stephen Jackson, Seabrook’s Attorney.

Seabrook and four other minority electricians claim the Fire Department overlooks them for overtime and promotions.

An FDNY spokesman said “The department has a zero tolerance policy towards intimidation. This alleged incident is under investigation.”

That noose looks very suspicious. Who would tie a noose and end it with a decorative Turks-head knot??

  2. Robert says:

I wonder how much the city will pay this guy to sugar him off? And all he had to do was buy 10 bucks worth of rope at Home Depot.

  3. Joshua says:

    Isn’t that an electrician’s knot?

  4. AGarone says:

Don’t get the racial connection between the employee and the noose! Now if it were a burning cross, or a white hood left in his locker he might have an issue.
Looks like someone looking for an easy way out of work and another frivolous lawsuit that us taxpayers will have to incur.

  5. Frank says:

Peppy, what does being an electrician have to do with serving as a fireman or firewoman? He’s just employed by the fire department.

  7. TG says:

He is not a firefighter, he is an electrician, a civilian employee of the FDNY.

  9. LOL over this says:

Lets see what kind of employee he is. How’s his attendance? Does he report to work everyday or does he have some kind of illness/emergency on Mondays and Fridays that prevent him from reporting for duty? Does he report to work early or is he habitually late? Does he cooperate with his supervisors and peers or does he complain about anything that requires actual work? Is he approachable or does he give off the angry man, dont even think of asking me to do anything, 500 years of slavery thing? Bottom line. Who is this person? And, does he have a valid complaint?
