34 At New Jersey Hospital Exposed To Tuberculosis

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) -- Thirty-four employees have tested positive for exposure to tuberculosis at a New Jersey hospital.

However, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River says no one has contracted the airborne disease that usually attacks the lungs.

The hospital's CEO says the Ocean County Health Department and state Health Department have reviewed a list of every patient admitted during the past year. None were identified as known TB patients.

Patty Ostaszewski says exposure could have come from anyone. She says there are no active TB cases and no risk to patients or workers.

The county health department told the Asbury Park Press the investigation remains ongoing.

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River is a 98-bed acute rehabilitation hospital which opened in 1993 and has 400 employees.
