Troubled Show Hires Former Tony Winner To Help Bono, Edge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The trouble-plagued Broadway musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has hired a veteran director to help with the show’s sound and arrangements.

Show spokesman Rick Miramontez said Paul Bogaev will be working with U2’s Bono and The Edge to improve the quality of music on the $65 million show.

Bogaev was musical director on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Starlight Express” and “Sunset Boulevard.”

“Spider-Man” is set to open March 15. It has been delayed several times, had a main actress quit and suffered numerous accidents that have left several actors hospitalized.

Bogaev won a Tony nomination in 2004 for his work on “Bombay Dreams.” He has a history of working with rock musicians who are crafting musicals, including “Tarzan” with Phil Collins and “Aida” with Elton John.

No wonder crime is up. Spiderman is too busy doing these ridiculous musicals.

Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark should not be a play, it should be an “act” in Vegas.

    1. Matt says:

I agree, but that’s what they’ve turned Broadway into, one huge Vegas act. Broadway stopped catering to theatre lovers once Disney chased everyone out so they could move in. Now the aim is to get tourist dollars by turning some 80s movie or in this case a comic book, into a musical revue. Just as well since those of us who live in this over priced city can’t afford to see a show anyway.
