Bloomberg Downplays Report On Code Violations At City-Owned Buildings
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg shrugged off a recent report indicating city-owned buildings are riddled with code violations. Among the buildings named are One Police Plaza, Manhattan Criminal Court and even Gracie Mansion.
"I don't think there's any big building that doesn't have some kind of things that need to be fixed up. It's just the real world," Bloomberg told reporters Monday.

The report indicates that the aforementioned structures have hundreds of violations, including issues with elevators, exterior walls, emergency exits and various safety measures.
Still Bloomberg played down the concerns, saying most city buildings were "probably in reasonably good shape."
"We have some very old buildings, which we're trying to sell off and downsize and consolidate space," the mayor said.

Bloomberg said the city has paid to fix some of the issues cited in the report. He claims some of the purported violations have been addressed, but the related paperwork has not been updated.
Councilwoman Gail Brewer is not conviced and said she plans to hold public hearings to determine just how bad the conditions are. Brewer said officials should set a good example for the rest of the city and hold themselves to the same standards as private owners.
