NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident on Friday night on Long Island.

Officials said the male victim was crossing Sunrise Highway in Bellmore when a small, dark-colored vehicle traveling eastbound struck the man at 9:20 p.m.

A fire department ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.

The vehicle fled the scene, and police said it should have extensive front end damage.
