39 Lambs Born At Stone Barns In Pocantico Hills

POCANTICO HILLS, NY (WCSB 880) – It's lambing season at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture and so far, 20 ewes have given birth to 39 lambs.

Stone Barns' livestock manager Craig Haney says most had twins, ranging from five to ten pounds.

"A little less than half the ewes have given birth in the last week," Heny told WCBS 880's Catherine Cioffi.

And while he admits he doesn't get much sleep during lambing season, he still enjoys seeing the lambs wobbling around the grassy pastures.

"They start racing up and down," Heny said of the newborns. "It's like watching a bunch of 4-year-olds loving running."

Heny says while the ewes do most of the work, he'll be standing by to make sure there are no complications and every lamb that's born comes out happy and healthy.
