Quick-Acting Lifeguards Save Boy's Life In Long Beach
LONG BEACH, NY (WCBS 880) - There were no lifeguards on duty at the private pool at a complex on Lincoln Boulevard in Long Beach, Long Island.
Somehow, a 3-year-old boy got away from his parents and was found floating facedown.
But, just a few feet away on the beach, about five lifeguards heard the commotion - and came running to help the child.
City manager Charles Theofan told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall that the first lifeguard to arrive saved the boy.

"A young man by the name of Kevin Morissey turned the boy on his side. He was able to regurgitate the water. He was breathing and he's now in Schneider [Children's] Hospital. He's fine," he said.
He says the reason there was no lifeguard at the pool was that it wasn't deep enough for one to be required.
Theofan said he does not remember a time before this that beach lifeguards saved someone from a private pool.
