Man Allegedly Steals Tip Jars On Long Island

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police said a 47-year-old Long Island man has been arrested in connection with the theft of several tip and donation jars at businesses throughout Brookhaven Town.

Police said Laurence Reilly of Farmingville was arrested Sunday on petty larceny charges. They say he would enter the businesses -- including a Quiznos and a Chinese restaurant -- and order food.

When the employee stepped away to process the order, police said Reilly would take the jars and walk out. Also stolen was a 9/11 first responder's charity fund jar from a 7-Eleven.

Reilly was to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Information on whether he had a lawyer was not immediately available.
