“At the top of our report card, we have Stop & Shop with an A+ and Whole Foods with an A+,” says executive director Adrienne Esposito. “Whole Foods will give 10 cents per reusable bag and Stop & Shop will give a nickel. Stop & Shop also has large signage reminding customers to use their bags.”

She says others, like Walmart and A&P aren’t doing their part to offer customers financial incentives to bring their own bags and not reminding customers to bring their bags into the store.
Esposito says it has to be a group effort.
“Frankly, stores cause the problem and now they need to help stop the problem,” she says.
Meanwhile calls to Walmart and A&P were not returned.
Their report also commended ShopRite, saying it “has a creative incentive for bringing your own bag – offering a 5 cent rebate for a reusable bag and a 2 cent rebate for reusing a plastic bag.”
