NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A deer made quite a splash at the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium Tuesday.

As seals frolicked in their tank, a not-so-common sight appeared to the astonishment of onlookers: A deer.

Aquarium employees attempted to capture the deer with a net. That didn’t work, so they placed a ramp in the water.

About 30 minutes later, the deer successfully climbed out of the tank.  The deer was not injured, nor were any seals, in the rescue attempt.

Aquarium officials think the deer swam across the river to get to the aquarium.

Tourists captured most of the rescue attempt on video and posted it to YouTube.

We just watched a live performance of idiots at work. The only thing worse (possibly) was listening to the commentary from the lady recording the video, “here he comes again!”; “the seals are upset”; “oh look, here he comes again”; “the seals are upset”; and on and on and on… In a 7+ min video, one would think she could come up with something else to say, especially given the ridiculousness taking place in front of her.

I’ve been to this aquarium before and luckily there are glass and double doors that separate the outside tank from the inside tank where all those screaming kids were. Hopefully that helped to lull the sounds from inside. It looks like they just kept everyone inside while the staff worked outside.

The first thing they should have done was cleared out all the screaming kids. I’m sure that added to stress of the deer, the seals and the aquarium employees.

Looks like Tweedledum and Tweedledummer out there trying to help the deer. They spend more time standing around with their finger up their nose than anything.
