Nassau County To Conduct Mosquito Ground Spraying To Prevent West Nile Virus
MINEOLA, NY (WCBS 880) - After one man died from West Nile Virus and a number of mosquitoes tested positive for the virus, the Nassau County health department has decided to spray the pesticide Scourge.

"Nassau County Department of Health will be doing localized spraying from a truck. That is a spray that comes out from the back of a truck and it is designed so that it hits mosquitoes as they are flying," said the health department's Mary Ellen Laurain.
The spraying will take place from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. throughout the week.
Sections of Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, North Massapequa, Plainedge, Bethpage, Old Bethpage, Plainview, Hicksville, and Levittown will be sprayed today.
Sections of Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Malverne, Lakeview, Franklin Square, and West Hempstead will be sprayed on Wednesday.
Sections of West Hempstead, Valley Stream and North Valley Stream will be sprayed on Thursday.
Alternate dates are next Monday and Tuesday.

Laurain said there were two cases of humans infected with the virus.
One has recovered and the Oyster Bay man who died was in his 70s.
