Cuomo Urges Action On Jobs For Young Minorities

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has pledged to combat high unemployment rates for young minorities throughout the state.

The governor told Hispanic lawmakers Friday at a conference in Puerto Rico that joblessness among young minority men is a problem "that has gone on year after year" and needs to be addressed in the legislature's next term, which begins in January.

He said the unemployment rate among young Hispanic men in New York is 35 percent.

The New York Times reports that Cuomo didn't outline any specific plan for addressing joblessness in the speech, and wouldn't elaborate when questioned by reporters afterward.
