PORT CHESTER, NY (WCBS 880) - As winter fast approaches, the Metro-North Railroad is changing its strategy for how it deals with bad weather on the New Haven Line.

New trains are tickling into service, but they're only better equipped to handle winter weather. Nothing, experts say, is winter proof.
Metro-North and the Connecticut DOT tell the Connecticut Post that they'll quickly curtail and suspend service to protect the system.
Officials also plan to improve communications about service changes.

Metro-North also plans to suspend some overhead wiring work this winter, allowing trains to pass broken down equipment in the snow.
Experts, including Jim Cameron, head of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council, suggest commuters plan in advance to work from home or have an alternate form of transportation in case train service is suspended.
