Mother, Son Get Prison Sentence After Scamming Employers Out Of $16M

NEW YORK (AP) -- A mother and son who siphoned more than $16 million from her longtime employers and funneled it into a failed ambulance company and personal luxuries have been sentenced to four to 12 years in prison.

Judy and Joseph Del Galdo were sentenced Tuesday. They pleaded guilty last month to charges including grand larceny.

The Manhattan district attorney's office says 67-year-old Judy Del Galdo worked as a bookkeeper for two related textile companies for 22 years. Prosecutors say she forged the company president's name on checks deposited into a dummy corporation's bank account. Her 46-year-old son was the only signatory.

Prosecutors say more than $6.6 million of the stolen money went to his now-defunct ambulance company. They say the rest went to a yacht, private jet travel and other plums.
