NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – For some travelers flying out of JFK Airport, the whole process is becoming a little less of a hassle.

Some flyers Wednesday morning were floating on air at American Airlines’ Terminal 8 screening.

They left on their shoes, belts, and jackets, they didn’t have to open their bags, and they breezed through security.

“Freakin’ easy, and painless. Very easy. It’s a breakthrough,” said one flyer.

“This was super. I could use this on some of those days when you’re running about 15 minutes late,” said another.

“I think it took 45 seconds,” said still another.

These frequent flyers were cleared through the Transportation Secrurity Administration’s Pre Check initiative.

TSA administrator John Pistole says all they had to do was volunteer additional information to their airline.

“We also do some other assessments with the airliness that we don’t go into detail about,” he said.

Kennedy is the ninth airport to try out Pre Check.

By year’s end, it will expand to 35 airports including Newark Liberty and LaGuardia.

This is classic fascism — a “partnership” between corporations, in this case the airlines, and government.
What will these frequent flyers say when the Feds forces this approach on other industries, ones where they don’t necessarily have a leg up because they’ve spent lots of money with the big players?

  2. Bill Fisher says:

This is the most blatantly racist and biased program to be introduced in decades. For the past year TSA has insisted that everyone must be subjected to the same security procedures, whether a child, elderly grandmother or US Senator. Now they are allowing the privileged buy their way out of the screening process.

TSA is tacitly saying that the wealthy are “more equal” than others. Those chosen for the program will almost exclusively consist of wealthy, mostly white passengers. Minorities and low income travelers will bear the brunt of these practices while the rich skirt them. This makes no sense from a security perspective since many terrorists, including Bin Laden, have been wealthy.

This state sponsored extortion will establish a mechanism to allow arbitrary profiling of passengers in the future which could include Muslims, Latinos or African-Americans.

If someone can buy their way out of screening then this is no more than security theater and passenger harassment. Congress must demand that TSA adopt consistent, sensible and respectful procedures for everyone, not just the privileged.

You sure do a lot of “reading between the lines” there, comrade.
