The 11-page "Notice of Remedy and Settlement of Class Action'' seeks to entice victims to provide Social Security numbers and bank information. The letter is signed by Edward Thompson, even though New Jersey's attorney general is Jeffrey Chiesa.

The real attorney general says the settlement doesn't exist.

Chiesa is urging anyone who receives a similar document by letter or email to call the Division of Consumer Affairs' Consumer Service Center hotline at 800-242-5846.
