Ceiling Collapses At Long Beach High School During Renovations

LIDO BEACH, NY (CBSNewYork) - A ceiling collapsed at Long Beach High School on Long Island on Friday evening, and crews are spending Saturday cleaning it up.

Crews are cleaning up the concrete, dirt, wires and insulation after the ceiling collapsed during renovations at the high school. Because school was closed for the holiday, nobody was hurt by the disaster.

"We don't do the kind of construction that might produce debris that could affect kids while school is in session," Long Beach School District superintendent David Weiss told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall."The building will stay closed until we have a safety certification on the building."

Weiss said it looks much worse than it is, and he expects everything to be back to normal by the time the high school reopens in one week.

"I was just concerned to see how bad [it was], and thank god that it is a holiday and [the students] are all off," one concerned parent said.

The collapse happened above the teachers' parking lot.

How concerned would you be as a parent, even if this happened while kids were on break? Sound off below...
