'About Time': Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Finally Get Engaged

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- After seven years as a couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are finally engaged.

Plenty of CBSNewYork's Facebook fans reacted to the news soon after it broke Friday. Most of them responded with the obligatory "Who cares?," "Couldn't care less," and of course "Big whoop."

However, other opinions ranged from surprise to sarcasm to even genuine happiness for the couple who have six children together, including three who are adopted.

"Fantastic," said Jo Cotroneo. "This should be great news for the children. It is always nice to have your parents married to each other."

"Maybe Angelina is actually adopting Brad!!" joked Melanie Studell McKay.

Pitt's manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, confirmed the news to The Associated Press in an e-mail Friday. The engagement "is a promise for the future," Pett-Dante said.

Pitt, 46, and Jolie, 36, who have been partners since they began a relationship while working on the 2005 film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," have not set a wedding date yet.

"Did he just wake up," said CBSNewYork Facebook fan Charlie Corio, "About time."

Jolie was briefly married to Billy Bob Thornton, but they divorced in 2003. She was also married to British actor Jonny Lee Miller before they divorced in 1999.

Pitt was previously married to Jennifer Aniston, but they divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage.

Jolie won an Oscar for her role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted." Pitt was recently nominated for an Academy Award for his role in last year's "Moneyball."
