Report: Montclair Medical Marijuana Center Can Start Growing Right Away

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Get growing.

That's the message the Department of Health and Senior Services is reportedly telling Greenleaf Compassion Center, a medical marijuana center in Montclair.

It's the first time state officials have allowed cannabis to be planted and grown since New Jersey's medical marijuana law passed more than two years ago.

It will take three to four months to cultivate the first crop, NJ.com reported.

Greenleaf's CEO Joe Stevens told NJ.com that the facility will not start planting right away. There are no dispensaries in New Jersey for patients to pick up the cannabis. Greenleaf still requires the health department to approve it to dispense the drug.

The company has not said where their grow facility is located. It's not clear what Greenleaf would do with the marijuana if they grew it without getting  permission to distribute it.
