Tim Tebow, Jeremy Lin Among Time's '100 Most Influential People In The World'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Time magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" issue will hit newsstands on Thursday -- and two of the biggest names in New York sports have made the cut.

Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin were among six athletes included in the list, which was revealed on the publication's website Wednesday.

Lin captured the imagination of New York City, the nation and the world when he emerged from obscurity in early February to spark the Knicks. Even President Barack Obama followed the story of his fellow Harvard alum.

"He's dispelled the idea that Asian-American guards somehow couldn't hack it in the NBA," U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan wrote of Lin, "and that being a world-class athlete on the court is somehow at odds with being an excellent student off the court."

Each entry in Time's list was accompanied by a testimonial from a noteworthy figure.

Lin himself penned the blurb on Tebow. The point guard and the Jets backup quarterback have been compared for their sudden rise to stardom in the face of adversity -- and their shared outspoken faith in Christianity.

"As athletes, we pour our hearts into winning games," Lin wrote. "Tim is a reminder that life is about much more than that."

Time described their Top 100 as "the people who inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world."

Athletes Novak Djokovic, Lionel Messi, Oscar Pistorius and Yani Tseng also made the list. Other locals included New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
