Jason Bay Still Struggling, Can't Find Stroke For Hit-Happy Mets
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Mets came out swinging Tuesday night after a disastrous weekend sweep in the Bronx, scoring 11 runs on 14 hits to coast by Tampa Bay.
It was especially impressive considering New York had three players batting under .200 in the lineup. Two -- Ike Davis and Jordany Valdespin -- had a pair of hits apiece. The third was Jason Bay, and let's just say he's still struggling to find his stroke.
In fact, Bay was the only Mets player without a hit in the 11-2 win.
Bay has now gone 0 for 16 in four games since coming off the disabled list, and has seen his average drop to .182. He had a reverse cycle of sorts Tuesday: fly out, strike out, pop out, ground out (twice).
"Production-wise, it hasn't been on par, I understand that, but I still feel like I can do those things — that is the frustrating part," Bay recently told the New York Post. "If I didn't feel like I can do it, I think it wouldn't be that tough. You wouldn't be so hard on yourself, but I feel like I can do it and it's just been a couple of years of searching for it."
Bay, who signed a four-year, $66 million deal before the 2010 season, has 21 home runs in three seasons with New York. The oft-injured 33-year-old hit 36 homers for Boston in 2009, his last year before joining the Mets.
