Coast Guard Rescues 6 From Boat That Caught Fire Off Jones Beach

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Police said six people were rescued from a burning fishing boat off Jones Beach Friday afternoon.

Nassau County Police said they don't know why the sport boat caught fire around 5:30 p.m.

The incident happened approximately 300 feet off the beach, police said.

The Coast Guard got the six people on the boat to safety.  Pictures showed the burning boat as Coast Guard crews tried to put out the flames.

Authorities said one of the passengers was treated for an injury, described as minor.
