Botox Beware: Deals On Cosmetic Surgery Could Lead To Faulty Procedures

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed today, and there appear to be great deals for the treatment everywhere.

But as TV 10-55's Katie McGee reports, those that undergo the procedure may not be getting what they think they're paying for.

Marla Schultz has been getting botox for 10 years, but after purchasing a Groupon for a treatment from a different doctor, was disappointed with the results.

"I had the injection and everything looked hunkey dorey," Schultz said. "But then I noticed that it wore off really quickly. I think it lasted maybe two and a half months."

So what may have caused Marla's facial freeze fail?

Dr. Scot Glasberg, vice president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, said the combination of couponing sites and cosmetic surgery has proved to be a stick situation.

"We have sent advisories to our members, advising them to be very, very careful about getting into this type of relationship," Dr. Glasberg said. "Surgeons with the Groupon relationship are being forced to cut their fees...so one could see that there is a incentive to dilute the botox to sort of game the system."
